In a city with such a prominent international oil and gas industry it can be difficult for small businesses and local businesses to get the attention they so deserve.  The Calgary Chamber of Commerce has partnered with ATB Business for the third year in a row to recognize small businesses that have made a contribution to the Calgary business community.  Small businesses have the opportunity to be recognized in a variety of categories such as Small Business of the Year, the Customer Service Award, or my favorite – the Community Impact Award. We here at CAES have had the pleasure of working with several small businesses in the Calgary community. There have been several times since our inception that small business leaders have been our biggest champions for inclusive workplaces.  These local and small businesses have helped Calgary maintain so much of its friendly ‘cowtown charm’ in spite of our exponential growth and development.  These businesses continue to foster a sense of community while providing significant benefits to the Calgary economy.  The Calgary Chamber of Commerce has arranged several events to recognize, and network with, outstanding small Calgary businesses throughout the week of October 20-24, 2014.  In the mean time it’s up to us to take a moment and nominate a small business that you feel has made Calgary proud!
